Texas Chicken opened its first outlet in Malaysia at Aeon Tinggi Shopping Centre in February 2013. The franchise is held by Dato' Jaya JB Tan's SGX listed Envictus International Holdings Limited. The exclusive 10 year Franchise Agreement was signed in July 2012 with Cajun Global LLC and was renewed for a further 10 years to 2030. There are 96 outlets and more are in progress. For FYE 30 Sept 2024 Envictus reported revenue of RM 686.8 million and profit after tax of RM50.55 million. Envictus has 4 business segments : Food services (Texas Chicken and SF Coffee), Trading and frozen food, Dairies and Food processing. Texas Chicken ops was the biggest contributor to the top and bottom line. San Francisco Coffee with 53 outlets is still a losing concern. Food services contributed RM426.7 million in revenue and RM41.7 million in profit before tax.
The Tan family manages the Texas Chicken chain. Dato Jaya JB Tan is the Chairman/ Group CEO. His son Tan San Ming is Joint COO with his daughter Tan San Yen. San Yen was with Texas Chicken from the start and is General Manager of Texas Chicken Malaysia. San Ming, 41, holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB), King's College, London. He is Alternate Director to his father on the board of Envictus. San Ming spent 2 years in Tsinghua University in Beijing China, where he studied Mandarin. He joined the Envictus Group in October 2020 and has been involved in the rebranding and management of the SF Coffee chain expansion (53 outlets now).
Some observers are wondering why the Teo family controlled Paramount Corporation would buy a substantial 28% stake (RM126 million) in Envictus mainly because of Texas Chicken when management control of the franchise chain is tightly held by Dato' JB Tan and his children. Will there be a board seat for Benjamin Teo Jong Hian (son of the late Datuk Teo Chiang Quan) who is the single largest shareholder of Paramount? Tan Boon Seng, Chairman of Dragon-i holds 12% in Envictus and he is not on the Board yet.
