Next Gen Datuk Ng Yih Pyng and siblings take Tomei to above RM1 billion in sales

FY2024 TOMEI GROUP REVENUE RM1.048 BILLION AND PBT 84.72 MILLION

Tomei Consolidated Berhad, founded by the late Tan Sri Datuk Ng Teck Fong, a prominent Hakka businessman, is an integrated manufacturer and retailer of gold, jewellery and diamonds. Founded in 1968 as a small family business, Tan Sri Ng's foresight and ingenuity grew the business via joint ventures and acquisitions. Tomei was also the first jeweller to open a retail outlet in 1973 at Campbell Shopping Complex. In 1997 Tomei formed a JV with Eugen Schofer GmBH & Co, a leading European Jewellery chain manufacturer, to produce gold and silver jewellery of a high standard of design and quality. In 2007 Tomei acquired Le Lumiere, a luxury diamond company founded in Hong Kong in 2003. Tomei is also in partnership with with Prima Gold from Thailand, holds the licence from Sanrio to manufacture and sell Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi and Cinnamoroll gold jewellery, and is the  exclusive distributor in Malaysia for Xifu Chinese Wedding Collection Jewellery. Tomei was listed in 2006 on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia.Currently it has 60 retail outlets in Malaysia situated mainly in shopping malls. Tomei's products are also exported to Asian and European markets. In expanding its ecosystem, the Group is also offering the pawnbroking services to its customers. In 2024 its subsidiary YX Precious Metals Bhd was transferred to the Main Market from an ACE market listing in June 2022. For FYE 31 December 2024 Tomei reported revenue of RM1.048 Billion and pre-tax profit of RM84.72 million. 

Founder

Tan Sri Datuk Ng Teck Fong is a distinguished jewel entrepreneur, a family man who taught his children the importance of keeping the family together, and an active community service person. He was an active Board member of Kuen Cheng High School from 1989 till his passing away in 2021 and gave much support to the reconstruction  of Kuen Cheng High School Project. Tan Sri Ng was called the "Big Brother" of The Federation of Chinese Associations of Malaysia (Hua Zong). The Malaysian Chinese Museum in Kuala Lumpur is testimony to his contribution to the Chinese community. Opened in 2018 it is the first museum in the country which has information and artefacts on the history of the overseas Chinese in Malaysia. A biography of his life by author Dr. Koay Su In was published in August 2018. 

Succession

The next Gen, Tan Sri Ng's two sons and two daughters are all actively engaged in the family founded business. They are also beneficially interested in the 59.67% of the shares of Tomei as at 21 March 2025. If Tan Sri Ng is alive today, he would be so proud of his children taking the jewellery firm to over RM1 billion in sales. Tan Sri Ng passed away in March 2021. The family is closely knit honoring their father's advice to always stay united and supportive of one another. 

At the helm of Tomei  is Datuk Ng Yih Pyng (53) who is Group MD. Datuk Ng Yih Pyng was appointed Managing Director of the Company on 21 April 2006. He obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance and a Master in Business Administration in Corporate Finance both from Iowa State University, USA. Upon graduation, he joined the Group as a Director and was working closely with his late father. Datuk Ng is currently the Advisor for the Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers Association of Malaysia. He is the President for both The Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry Malaysia (“ACCCIM”) and The Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor. Datuk Ng currently sits on the Board of Social-Economic Research Centre Sdn Bhd, an independent and non-profit think tank arm of ACCCIM. Datuk Ng is also a member of the Board of YX Precious Metals Bhd.  

Datuk Ng's wife, Datin Choong Chow Mooi (56) was appointed as Executive Director of the Company on 21 April 2006. She graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Iowa State University in the USA in 1989 and received a degree in Gemology from the Gemological Institute of America, Santa Monica California in 1991. She first joined the Group in 1995 as its General Manager. She is a trained gemologist and currently responsible for the jewellery division of the Group. In addition, Datin Choong is also overseeing the general administrative issues of the Group and assists in the management of the Group’s retail operation. 

Ng Yih Chen (58), elder brother of Datuk Ng, was appointed Executive Director of the Company on 21 April 2006. He obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Iowa State University in the USA in 1988 and further pursued with Gemology at the Gemological Institute of America in 1990 before receiving a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Hull, United Kingdom in 1996. He joined the Group in 1988 as Director and is currently responsible for specialized sales of the Group. Ng Tih Chen was the organizing chairman for the AEC+6 Gems & Jewellery Association 4th President Summit. He was the Vice President for the Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers Association of Malaysia and the President for the Goldsmiths & Jewellers Association of Wilayah Persekutuan, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang. He is also the Founding President for both the GIA Alumni Association Malaysia and the Gemologist Society of Malaysia. In addition, he also serves several other associations, both local and international in various capacities.  

Ng Sheau Yuen (51) was appointed Executive Director of the Company on 21 April 2006. She obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Iowa State University in the USA in 1991 and subsequently obtained her Master of Business Administration from the same university in 1993. In 2005, she obtained a Diploma in Diamond Grading from the Gemological Institute of America. She is a Fellow Member of the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership. She started her career as a lecturer in Sunway College in 1993. In 1996, she joined textile dyeing and finishing company PT Safilindo Permata in Bandung, Indonesia as Assistant Manager. In 2003, she joined the Group as Director in the gold division. Since 2011 her portfolio in licensed Brands has extended to include Batar Gold (China) and Prima Gold (Thailand).    

Ng Sheau Chyn (54) is Managing Director of YX Precious Metals Bhd. She was appointed to YX Board on 11 January 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering as well as a Master degree in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University USA  in 1990 and 1991, respectively. She also served as a Research Assistant in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the same university from 1991 to 1992. Since her return to Malaysia in 1992, she joined YXG as a director responsible for the wholesale and manufacturing operations of YX Group, which is part of Tomei and its subsidiaries (“Tomei Group”).
