FYE 2024 SAMCHEM HOLDINGS REPORTS REVENUE OF RM1.22 BILLION

Ng Thin Poh, UM graduate (Bsc Honours degree majoring in Chemistry) in 1981 left university to start a career which he didn't fully realise then what and where it would lead him. After all there were so many batches of graduates with the same degree over the years. Ng joined Texchem Malaysia Sdn Bhd as a sales executive in 1982. The following year he left for Jebsen & Jessen (M) Sdn Bhd, a global family enterprise spanning engineering, manufacturing, mining and distribution activities which started as a trading partnership in Hong Kong in 1895.

He was exposed to the scale of international business and then moved on to Rhone- Poulenc Sdn Bhd, Malaysian subsidiary of the top French chemical manufacturer founded in 1928  which subsequently merged in January 1999 with Hoechst AG to form Aventis. Few at 30 and working at a top chemical manufacturer would dare venture out to start a chemical distribution business. Ng did just that. He founded Samchem Holdings in 1989 and it was listed in Bursa Malaysia on 23 June 2009.

More than 30 years on, Samchem Holdings Berhad is now reporting sales of RM1.22 billion and a profitable track record over the years. PBT for FY2024 is RM26.53 million. Ng is 67 now. His daughter Ai Rene (then 34), a corporate lawyer in practice, was appointed to the Board of Samchem. In February 2019 Ai Rene was elevated to Executive Director . She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Melbourne, Australia. She commenced her legal career in Malaysia as a pupil in Skrine in February of 2011 and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaysia on 9 March 2012. She left Skrine in 2015 and continued legal practice in Abdullah Chan & Co, Ai Rene & Co, Putri Norlisa Chair and Kesavan, focusing on corporate and commercial law.

Samchem acquired CKJ Logistics Sdn Bhd in February 2024 to enhance its operational capacity. CKJ Logistics is a third party bulk liquid chemical  & industrial gases logistics provider. Samchem's chemical distribution and blending operations are in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore.
