Chan Family controlled Oriental Kopi a leading kopitiam chain in Malaysia

April 18, 2026

FY2025 REVENUE WAS RM450.9 MILLION, PAT WAS RM60.8 MILLION

Started in 2020, listed on ACE Market in 2025 successfully raising RM184 million for expansion, and ending FY 2025 with RM450.9 million revenue and profit after tax of RM60.8 million is quite a phenomenal achievement by the Chan siblings and in-laws led by Dato' Calvin Chan, 44 who hails from Johor Bahru. It is the dream of many aspiring and present kopitiam owners to have that kind of success. There are so many kopitiams everywhere selling similar food and beverages but out of that stiff competition, the Chans rose high above the rest with Oriental Kopi and in such a short time.

All the 25 Oriental Kopi cafes are owned by the company. None are franchised. 3 Oriental Kopi outlets in Singapore are operated through a JV with Paradise Group that operates Paradise Dynasty, ParaThai, Le Shrimp Noodle Bar and 7 other restaurant brands in Malaysia and which has under its portfolio 17 brands, 167 outlets in 22 cities.

Oriental Kopi also has a fast expanding business in packaged food products carrying its brand name (coffee, tea, kaya, instant noodles, cooking paste etc). They are manufactured by third parties. Specialty retail stores carrying the full range of Oriental Kopi brand products without F&B services are also growing.

This is a real brand success story. Not just a kopitiam chain. The way the brand is leveraged well across the board is inspiring. The Chans did it all by themselves. They are true entrepreneurs. Dato' Calvin did not learn his skills from a business school. He has no degree to his name. He sold handphones and saved money to start the business with his siblings. Management of the business is in the hands of the Chans and in-laws. Dato' Calvin Chan is MD, his sister Callie Chan Yen Min and brother-in-law Sean Koay Song Leng, 36, are Executive Directors. All three of them control Oriental Kopi's majority stake of 67.85% as at 31 Dec 2025. Callie Chan and Sean Koay are both engineers who left their professions to enter the F&B business. Callie, 35, holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from Taylor's University while Koay holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, Taylor's University. Callie worked in Yokogawa Electric (Malaysia)  and Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing before venturing into F&B in 2021. She was a director and shareholder of Cunfry (Korean fried chicken and fries) and Golden Whale International (Black Whale bubble tea) between 2021-2023 and also a director of Beutea beverage chain (2022-2024) before focusing full time on Oriental Kopi's flourishing business. In key senior management at Oriental Kopi are also Dato' Calvin's cousin, Chan Wei Jet, 40 who is the Business Development/FMCG Manager and his sister-in-law Jackline Koay Chor Leng, 44, who is Retail Operations Manager.

The Group plans to open another 13 cafes in 2026, expand its range of packaged food products and distribution channels, set up more retail specialty stores without F&B service, and explore expansion into ASEAN countries with potential partners via JVs and franchises. The RM184 million raised via its IPO in 2025 will be mainly used for working capital (41%), setting up of a new HQ, Central Kitchen and warehouse (29%), and setting up of new Oriental Kopi outlets (20%).
