YTL Corp's transformation from Construction origin to Power

FYE 2023 YTL CORP REPORTED REVENUE OF RM29.6 B & PRE-TAX PROFIT RM2.73B

Dato' Yeoh Seok Kian (66), Group MD of YTL Corporation Berhad (YTL Corp)  is the second eldest son of Tan Sri Dato Seri Yeoh Tiong Lay,  the founder of the YTL Group. He was appointed to the current position not long after his father passed away in October 2017 at the age of 88. Eldest brother, Tan Sri (Sir) Francis Yeoh Seok Ping (69) who was Group MD, was elevated to Executive Chairman of YTL Corp taking the chair which his father held up to his demise. 

YTL Corp is one of the largest family controlled companies listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia. It is a corporate grouping with three other listed companies -  YTL Power International Berhad, YTL Hospitality REIT and Malayan Cement Berhad. The Yeoh siblings own 48.67% of the company's shares as at 21 September 2023 via Yeoh Tiong Lay & Sons Holdings Sdn Bhd. 

Dato' Yeoh graduated from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K. in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Building and attended the Advanced Management Programme conducted by Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA. He joined the Board of YTL Corp in 1984 as Executive Director and has been in the top management of the Group since. His 3 other brothers and two sisters are all Directors of YTL Corp. 

Dato' Yeoh Seok Hong (64), engineer,  is MD of YTL Power International Berhad, Dato' Sri Michael Yeoh Sock Siong (63), engineer, is MD of Malayan Cement Berhad and Dato' Mark Yeoh Seok Kah (58), lawyer (King's College, London) is ED of YTL Hotels & Resorts Division of the YTL Group. Sisters, Dato' Yeoh Soo Min (64), accountant, runs the Group's accounting/finance systems, and Dato' Yeoh Soo Keng (60), engineer, is in key management of the Group's construction/infrastructure projects. All the 7 siblings are represented on the various boards of the YTL Group. 

For FYE 30 June 2023, YTL Corp recorded total revenue of RM29.6 billion and pre-tax profit of RM2.7 billion. The biggest contributor to revenue and profit was the Utilities segment. YTL Power achieved revenue of RM21.9 billion and after tax profit of RM2.03 billion mainly from its power generation business, YTL PowerSeraya in Singapore which it acquired in 2008.
