Dato' Loy Teik Ngan built Taylor's to become a top notch university in S.E. Asia

AGAINST GREAT ODDS HE STEERED A DEBT RIDDEN FAMILY BUSINESS INTO PROSPERITY

He is the eldest son of the founder of the biggest finance company in Malaysia in the 1990s  (MBF Finance). The 1997 Asian Financial Crisis pulled the carpet out from under many corporations, one of which was MBF Finance Group. Dato' Loy Teik Ngan was left holding the reins when his father, the late Tan Sri Loy Hean Heong passed away that year. Teik Ngan was in his mid-30s. He had to convince creditors to give him the chance to earn money to pay back the debts. He was a guarantor together with his brothers. Few young people possess the tenacity and courage to face such a great adversity and emerge in shining armour. Today Dato' Loy stands tall as the Executive Chairman of Taylor's Education Group (TEG) which includes in its portfolio Garden International School, Taylor's College and Taylor's University.

TEG has secured its place among the top 1% of universities worldwide, ranking 253rd globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026 for the eighth consecutive year. It is the top private university in S.E. Asia. When the Loy family bought into Taylor's many years ago, it was only a college with dreams to be an excellent educational institution. The success of Taylor's has surpassed the family's expectations. Dato' Loy, an affable gentleman, attributes it to a great blessing from GOD.

The man is also a hotelier. He owns the award winning luxury Aspect Niseko ski resort and also owns and operates 6 resorts across Malaysia and one in Gold Coast Australia through Leisure Holidays Bhd. Dato' Loy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada. He is Chairman of FBN Asia, a regional chapter of FBN International, a private not-for-profit organisation representing family businesses in 65 countries across 45 continents.
