Gadang Holdings New Gen is Kok Pei Ling, 39, daughter of Tan Sri Dato' Kok Onn, major shareholder

 G7 CONTRACTOR HAS EXPANDED INTO PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT AND UTILITIES IN INDONESIA

Gadang Holdings Berhad is listed under the Construction sector of the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia. It was originally known as Lai Sing Holdings Berhad.  In 1997, Tan Sri Dato’ Kok Onn who is the Managing Director cum Chief Executive Officer became the major shareholder and took over the operations of the Company and renamed the Company as Gadang. He set up Datapuri Sdn Bhd (Datapuri) in the same year to enhance the engineering services of Gadang Group. Datapuri’s scope includes high voltage and low voltage electrical works, air conditioning and ventilation, fire protection and plumbing and sanitary services.

Gadang has since expanded and diversified into property development (Gadang Land Sdn Bhd) with most of its projects in the Klang Valley. In 2005 its Utility Division under Asian Utilities Pte Ltd (AUPL) was established with its first water concession in Sidoarjo, East Jawa and to date, AUPL owns one mini-hydro power plant and four water treatment plants in Indonesia. In 2014 it ventured into hydro power generation through its acquisition of a 60% stake in PT Ikhwan Mega Power, the holder of a 9 megawatt hydro power concession in Kabupaten Tanah Datar, Sumatera Barat for a period of 15 years. 

Prior to buying into Gadang, Tan Sri Kok Onn successfully built up Bridgecon Engineering Sdn Bhd (“BESB”) which he founded and listed it on the then Second Board of the Bursa Malaysia in 1994. He transformed Bridgecon from a pure construction company to a group which engaged in the manufacturing and supply of readymixed concrete, concrete pumping, quarrying, property and resort development.  

Kok Pei Ling is the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Gadang. She has been assisting her father for more than 8 years in the business. Pei Ling holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Management) degree, University of Melbourne, Australia. Before joining Gadang, she had worked with BDO Capital Consultants, OSK Investment Bank and OCBC Bank.
