A graduate of Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1983 with a Bachelor's degree in Housing, Building and Planning, Dato' Seri Lee Tian Hock (65), has built his whole career in the property industry. A kampung boy from Bukit Pelanduk, Negeri Sembilan (N.S.), he remained true to his roots and began his entrepreneurial journey in his home state.
It was in 1996 that Dato' Seri Lee set up Matrix Concepts. He launched his maiden project - 595 medium to low-cost 1-storey residences called Taman Bahau in N.S. in 1997 which was a success. Prior to venturing out on his own, he had worked with a developer in Johor after graduation and then garnered more than a decade of experience at different levels of the construction and property development business. The take off in his trajectory were two flagship developments in 2005 - Taman Seri Impian in Kluang, Johor and Bandar Sri Sendayan, N.S. From then on it has brought Matrix Concepts Holdings Berhad to listing on Bursa Malaysia (28 May 2013) and many awards and accolades since including Forbes Asia's 200 Best Under a Billion Award 2014.
Dato' Seri Lee himself received the latest award last year - the Sin Chew Business Excellence Award 2023, in recognition of his leadership in steering Matrix Concepts to the top tier of property developers in the nation. It was no walk in the park to achieve what he has done till today. Dato' Seri Lee recounts the economic crises with sighs of relief that he made it through with his team and family. He is grateful to friends and associates who rode the waves along with him. He credits the Group MD of Matrix, Ho Kong Soon, a graduate engineer from University of Malaya (1992) for his immense contribution. Ho has been with Matrix since 1997 when Dato' Seri Lee started the property development company.
For FYE ended 31 March 2024 Matrix Concepts reported total revenue of RM1.34 billion and pre-tax profit of RM334 million. Apart from its domestic operations Matrix said its overseas developments both in Melbourne, Australia and Jakarta, Indonesia are making positive contributions. The group has ventured into healthcare, hospitality and education operations but the top revenue contribution is from the main property business (RM1.1 billion). As at 30 June 2023 Dato' Seri Lee Tian Hock has a direct stake of 11.47% and an indirect stake of 21.25% in the shares of Matrix Concepts.
